Peter Littlewood is the Young People’s Trust for the Environment’s Director. He started working for the Trust in 1993, by which time he was already an experienced outdoor instructor. He now has over 20 years experience of leading and organising residential trips for school groups and young people.
He became the Trust’s Director in 1999, and has been responsible for heading major projects including the Living for the Future Millennium Awards and Barclaycard LivingLand, which ran from 2001-2004 and Making waves in your community for Northumbrian Water in 2005. He is currently responsible for devising and delivering the TOTAL Green School Awards.
Peter is interested in developing new projects for corporate sponsors and supporters. He is currently working with Eurostar on ‘Have your say on sustainability’, a competition for young environmentalists aged 11-18. Their challenge is to create a 2-3 minute video in which they express their views about the environmental issues that really matter to them. Prizes include the chance for the young winners to travel to Brussels to discuss their views with MEPs at the Eurpoean Parliament, £250 of vouchers for the winners’ schools and a two night, three day trip to Disneyland Paris for a family of four for one of the lucky winners. Ultimately, his ambition is the creation of a new low impact residential centre for environmental education, which will use alternative technologies and resource-saving practices wherever possible.
